Senior IT Officer
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide technical advice and expertise in network & system infrastructure, including structured cabling, network & system design, capabilities and maintenance
Review or re-design and implement Wi-Fi, local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN) and other network configurations if needed. Collaborate with IT team to design and implement network & system infrastructure that supports the school's objectives
Monitor network traffic, performance, capacity and troubleshooting network issues to ensure efficient and reliable operation. Test data exchange and communication between computers, firewall, and servers. Conduct thorough capacity planning exercises to meet present and future school requirements, and ensure the network infrastructure can accommodate the school's growth
Assist the team lead to determine the school needs and coordinate the development and maintenance of network infrastructures with the IT team including firewalls, servers, storage, network, switches, VMware (virtual machines), wireless, Veeam backup, firmware upgrades, patch management, VPN (virtual private network), CCTV, access control, PA system, etc..
Responsible for installation, update and configuration of hardware and software
Participate actively in network team-related projects and initiatives, and provide valuable insights and technical expertise to drive successful outcomes
Protect School's network, system and data from breaches, malicious intrusions and other threats
Maintain and execute network team-related disaster recovery plans to ensure school continuity and minimize downtime during critical events
Take the senior role on technical escalations and drive incidents / problems until resolution utilizing advice
Assist in IT / AV including hardware, application, photo taking / recording and AV setup for school events for all levels of users
Manage helpdesk and answer user tickets
Work with vendors for product placement and feature improvements for reliability, availability, and serviceability
Conduct and arrange user training in any kind of IT activities
Assist in sourcing and negotiating with vendors for new equipment / maintenance renewal
Assist the team lead in technical proposal writing and presentation
Review inventory of hardware and software, and ensure the accuracy
Cope with operational process improvement technically
Assist the team lead to plan for the development and implementation of new, efficient and effective technology / IT solutions that maximize school’s resources and other external resources
Prepare IT budget
Train and supervise the junior IT staffs in technical matters for strengthen knowledge
Provide expertise advice on infrastructure and network architecture based on growth projection or school expansion
Carry duties according to IT guidelines, policy and standard approval procedures
Support the school events occasionally
Plan and organize work activities and assess relative importance of jobs with the team lead. Adjust the job priorities when appropriate
Any ad-hoc projects and other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Experience
Degree holder in Information Technology discipline or equivalent; holder of MCSE, RHCE, CCNP is an advantage
Minimum 7 years' experience in the development, installation and maintenance of information systems in which 3 years or more experience in a supervisory role, preferably in the education field
Hands-on experience on IT system infrastructure and AV system deployment
Strong knowledge in system setup, administration and configuration on Microsoft Windows Servers, Domain Controller, Active Directory design, Linux, Apache, MySQL, Shellscripts, DNS, VMware, Veeam Backup
Good knowledge of Google Suite for Education or Microsoft office 365 for School
Knowledge of School and IT Systems / Solutions to support school operations
Ability to negotiate and work with vendors and consultants
Ability to work under pressure and good troubleshooting skills
Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
Strong project management skills with drive to meet the school and departmental objectives;
Ability to manage projects on interrelated time lines
Multi-tasking skills
Good communication and interpersonal skills to cope with internal and external parties
Willing to learn, responsible, positive thinking
Good command of spoken and written English and Chinese, including Putonghua
Good team player
Candidates with less experience/qualifications will be considered as IT Officer
